Ways To Decrease Screen Time

A compilation of strategies to decrease using electronic devices by a student who really needs to decrease her screentime.

Basically, distract yourself. Cleaning is a way to distract yourself and feel fresher — a cluttered workspace is horrid and inconducive to productivity, after all.

If you feel inclined, you can even open some music to make the cleaning session more enjoyable. As long as you decide on the playlist beforehand, so you don’t have to keep searching for the music.

I personally find it harder to clean with music as I’m very picky with my music.

Shutting down your laptop or your phone can help with decreasing screentime. Sometimes it can be good to shut off your devices when you’re overwhelmed. Powering off is a good way to cement the “no screentime” plan.

As someone who’s device has been confiscated multiple times, having your device locked up is the best way to not use electronics. If you give your devices to someone, like your parents, to lock up, then your screentime will definitely decrease.

Basically, change your source of entertainment from internet-based to paper-based.

Books can occupy your time well, and you could learn something without the internet.

Doing my paper-based homework is another way to take a break from increasing my screentime.

I have fallen asleep multiple times after I was told to stop my screentime use or my devices were confiscated. I woke up feeling rather refreshed even for an evening nap.

When you have nothing to do, sleep is one of the best things to do. It’s always nice to rest your brain over being overstimulated by your phone and laptop.
