Adderall for All

Adderall is the ultimate mental performance enhancer. It is a potent stimulant that’s prescribed to people who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, in order to hone their attention and productivity. When it falls in the wrong hands, it can be abused by those who do not suffer from ADD or ADHD, all with the motivation to improve concentration and stay alert for hours on end. It is precisely for this reason that it is very hard to recognise a person who abuses this substance: there’s nothing “junkie” about the way they look, they are often high-school students or young professionals who are under pressure to perform in exams or get their work done efficiently to meet deadlines.

Adderall, and its younger cousin — Ritalin — are drugs for ambition. It is a welcome feeling for driven people to be able to sustain their focus for extended periods of time. Where natural methods fail, chemical stimulants succeed. And thus, Adderall abuse has become an increasing fad among the younger population throughout the world. Many people would not think twice before popping the pill because it’s often prescribed to children as well. However, these children suffer from ADHD or ADD, which is why they are told to take this amphetamine at low doses and under the guidance and monitoring of a doctor and responsible guardian.

For those my age who may be getting suspicious about some friends who may suddenly be performing well in their exams, or being able to meet deadlines in short periods of time, here are some tell-tale signs of Adderall abuse:

If you recognise these signs in a person you may know, it’s also important to understand that, if they really are abusing stimulants, that they will have negative effects on an individual’s health in the long run. It’s a very serious issue, that could lead to fatal consequences as well, such as heart attacks, strokes or liver failure. It’s even more concerning when one realises that abusing Adderall usually happens at a young age, when people are prone to experimenting newly with other substances such as alcohol. Mixing this with other substances can lead the person to having a fatal overdose as well.

It’s becoming increasingly “cool” to be career-oriented, driven and ambitious. While prioritising one’s profession has never been a bad thing, it’s becoming increasingly so when people are no longer able to take care of their own health in an effort to get ahead in life. It is my sincerest advise to all my peers, friends and colleagues that nothing is worth your physical and mental wellbeing. We would do well to remember that there’s no point in getting ahead in your career if you are not going to be around to enjoy the eventual fruits of your labour in any case.
