The Great Plunge

This is a brief feature article I’ve written a couple of years ago in a journalistic workshop. I was tasked to write about my most memorable moment as a campus journalist.

Guess what it is.

A glimpse into a sea of mystique made her flinch — mind deluged with sheer uncertainty and curiosity. Clueless about the mystery concealed in every path she takes, she makes an attempt — a doubtful, impulsive withdrawal — devoid of what might be expected as a brief deliberation. Or not.

At the time, she had no idea what this wonderful realm has for her — oblivious of the new opportunities and experiences that lie beneath the visible surface. On a second thought, who would have mulled over that joining the school’s remarkable guild — the school paper itself — would become much of a challenge rather than a deal? Take it from skilled student writers and journalists who are more than willing to extend their cooperation and technical skills in forming the latest news, commentaries, feature stories and other literary articles for everyone’s vigilance.

Imminent yet pure wisdom continued to pend, as she remains uninformed of a wholesome furnished persona she can become once she undergoes training in a particular form of journalistic writing — one that she also didn’t know would impact her life a unique way. Yet, she considered her heart as the chief feature of a functioning mind, and through naturally-flowing words she creates an endless ripple of emotion and expression.

She lacked awareness, that in one way or another, she could’ve been one of the school’s toppers in feature writing, going beyond the school premises (DSPC) and representing the whole division against the region (RSPC); together with the awe-inspiring experience of visiting one of the world’s wonder cities (Vigan, Ilocus Sur). She could’ve been recruited in their Journalism Club (The Leader) in high school and continue her passion. And that all the obstacles that hindered her path can be easily conquered with valor. And that commitment and perseverance amidst a great dilemma begets esteem and the sweetest victory. Everything will be worth it.

She could’ve been writing this article now.

But she didn’t know.

If only she can foresee the future by herself. But that didn’t happen. And regardless of the occurrence of that premonition or otherwise, in the end, she still has realized that all of the chances and opportunities that she awaits — or become anxious of — can and only can happen if she has the vigilance to embrace those and make the choice.
