Love.

I was having a discussion with my friends the other day and one of them mentioned how she didnt believe that love existed, with the exception of the love that her parents have for each other…

That got me thinking about the notion of love as we think and what it really is.

I think that when we talk about love , we don’t appreciate the depth of responsibility that comes with it, the willingness to sacrifice one’s self, to compromise , to forgive, the understanding and the many other things that each relationship might require in different circumstances.

In my opinion, love does not exist in a vacuum. It doesn’t stand on its own. It is not something that just is… Love is a combination of a lot of things … It’s different encompassing acts which develop into feelings towards another person … It could be the person’s mindfulness of you, kindness, compassion, understanding, beauty and many other things which you come to love about a person and fall in love with.

I think that as human beings we place such a heavy burden on ‘Love’ on its own to do the magic without doing more to help yield those feelings and nurture them over time. I don’t think it makes much sense to say you love someone because you love them. Most of the time ; when one is asked why one loves another person it’s because of the things that such a person does for and to them that develops into love.

So people don’t just wake up and fall out of love. What happens is that one party stops doing all things which created the love in the first place, and in the absence of those actions ; love has nothing to thrive on.
