The Ps of Team Motivation

I often get asked how I motivate and empower people to do their best, either at work or in any other personal situation.

When we talk about motivation it is important to understand that the intrinsic motivation is the only one that matters. I might reduce this to a simpler concept — inspirational leadership drives success. Transactional leadership can drive short-term results but in the long run, people need to feel inspired, they are empowered by having a common goal and shared passions. That’s what makes a great team come together.

The concepts in this article are not new. These are some of the things that always have worked for me, my basic toolbox for managing people and delivering great outcomes.

Finally, remember that motivation is personal and every individual will have their own internal drive. Build connections and understand what motivates each person.
