Accepting My Autism and Making Important Changes

I am autistic so my mind operates in a logical manner. Things need to make sense to me. I didn’t like my work situation, so I decided to make a change. I was literally miserable at my current job so thankfully, with the help of a friend, I was able to find a new one. I have never been one to sit around and whine about something I don’t like without doing something about it. After all, the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results.

I’m going to be working outside of my home for the first time in years. It will take some getting used to but I’m excited at the prospect. Two years ago, our world as we knew it changed forever. While working from home has its advantages, I did miss the idea of getting out of the house and interacting with other people.

I saw a TEDx Talk earlier, the gist of the lecture was “what do you want?” What I really want is to see my books turned into movies. I also want to help other autistic people to live happy, productive lives.

In the process, I want to live a comfortable life and help to teach the children because they really are our future and teachers are leaving the profession in alarmingly, large numbers. I want occasional weekends at the beach and brunch on Sundays after church, and maybe sometimes on Saturday. I want my children and grandchild to remain healthy and happy. I want to fix up this house and restore it to its former glory. But most of all, I want to live my life as my authentically autistic self without ridicule or persecution.
