Visiting Argentina Part 4

I wake up with a headache. I had been warned about the possibility, given the altitude. A few ibuprofen and a strong cafe con leche push it away and I spend my last few hours in Humahuaca walking…

Resort Life

Day Two

There are five pools here. As my two boys careened around one of them at a rapid pace bouncing off the concrete ledges, playing some kind of very boisterous game someone nearby commented that they hoped I had purchased travel insurance. Indeed of course, I had. As they also seem to be having near misses with others swimming near them I wonder if I should have purchased some kind of liability insurance on their behalf.

I had made the mistake of sitting by the one “adult only” pool briefly earlier. The unsmiling faces around me were a clear indicator that we were in the wrong place. No matter. Good to know those who really want a quiet time have a place to go. We left quickly.

I am drinking Bahama Mamas today. Good to change it up.

My daughter is doing headstands in the water and asking me to time her. I ask her if she wants to do synchronized swimming with me and she declines. Probably because neither one of us knows how. Also because I might embarrass her. OK, likely would. Maybe it’s the Bahama Mama but I feel like I could easily swim for Canada.

Some of the guests are Mexican. That’s an assumption. There are lots that are Spanish-speaking. I guess I could ask. Could be any country where that is the first language. Or at least where people become proficient in it. Two little boys sit next to me in the shallow end and rattle away at me in Spanish. I nod my head multiple times and mutter mmhhhmm and that seems to be enough. Their parents sit nearby smiling. My daughter somehow is able to engage with them although she does not speak Spanish either; ends up playing ball with them in the water.

I have another Bahama Mama. The bar is right behind me. It does not really take much effort to walk there. The biggest decision is what kind of drink to have. My two youngest are on a first-name basis with the bartender. He does speak English. They perch on stools sipping their drinks and seem to have found endless things to talk to him about when he is not busy.

The biggest complaint I hear from one of the adults sitting nearby is that there is no swim-up bar in any pool in this resort. So sad. Not.

My biggest complaint is that there are no cup holders in the chairs. Also that the seats mostly lounge back, no upright option…
